Bad Thud in drivetrain, videos.......help
91 VR4. Makes a horrible thud as the drivetrain is engaged, or a load is applied and removed. if you pull the clutch out quickly it makes the thud and it feels thru the whole car. If I have the clutch fully engaged, just cruising and I tap the gas quickly and slightly , the thud will occur, as if there is play somewere in the drivetrain, and the taping of the gas allows it to go back and forth, if that makes sence. Very similar to a bad engine mount but Im sure its not a mount. if cruising in higher gears the thud is less intense when you tap the gas. I just rebuilt the tranny, the vcu dowel pins looked good, as did the teeth on the output shaft(both ends), I am thinking its coming from that area, but still don't know.
To recreate the thud sound for the videos, I am popping the clutch quickly, not fully letting it out, just poppin it in and out. Keep in mind during the vids.
Car is jacked up.
The first video is of the rear drive shaft section(camera pointing up from the ground) as I apply the clutch repeatedly to make the thud sound.
Second video is of the first carrier towards the front of the car then onto the Transfer case, then directly underneath tranny, same scenario. doesn't look like the shaft is banging from bad carriers.
Third video is with the Transfer case removed and popping the clutch. its not as intense i think maybe because of the load from the rear drive train is gone.
Clutch is a cheesey XTD 6 puck(came with the car). I put a socket and rachet onto the output shaft to move it back and forth the see how much play. There is very very small amount before the front wheels start to spin, but the 4th video is of me moving the racket back and forth, almost making a clank sound in the tranny.....not sure if that is the cause or if its normal. I also have like 10-12 mm of play in the rear diff, which i am taking care of soon, that could be the thud, but it sounds like its coming from the front......idk
Any ideas would be greatly apprecited. thank you for watching.
