I have a question about the WOT timing control. Is it really only work at WOT, or is there a setting I need to change to make sure it is?

When I hooked everything up, WOT spark was defaulted to -10 across the board. I did not realize this at first, but my car ran like crap at idle, then I changed it to 0's and everything ran fine again.

So if it is really "WOT spark" why did it affect my idle?
