I can't see why you would have any hotter combustion without an EGR, infact it should be cooler without it. Think about it, its introducing hot exhaust gases back in the intake path.
it also contributes to more carbon buildup on your valves(with an EGR)
IMO it does more harm that good, without an egr I still had no problems passing emissions
(it also helps they had no idea where the EGR should be on my car, lol)
