How To: Disable your factory alarm
why do this?
After time and maybe mods not all your "connections" for the factory alarm are working the best?
Maybe the alarm will conflict with your aftermarket.
it can even cause your car not to start.
The dreaded ETACS is the cause... And this is how to shut it down once and for all. No the fuse pulling doesnt work, why? because car thiefs could just bypass your alarm by pulling fuses. That would be pretty dumb.
So here's how it's done.
Youll need 10mm socket and extension(get a woble extension if you can).
pair of generic pliers
small flathead screw driver
about 6 inches of wire
one splice wire fitting (at any autozone, it connect 2 wires and clamps over).
one ring terminal to fit a 10mm bolt through
1.First make your ground wire, take the wire and trim 3/8th inch back on ONE end only. connect the ring terminal to it.
2. remove the lower kick panel under the drivers steering wheel, theres 2 bolts underneath and remove the 2 plastic switch holders to the left and right of the steering wheel(USE EXTREME caution because breaking these tabs is annoying). Just work them out slowly with the screw driver and unplug the connections. This exposes 2 more 10mm bolts. So you now have 4 10mm bolts out. Drop the kick panel down (work it off the air vent on the left and gently wriggle it down) so you dont have to remove the hood release wire).
3. locate the etacs unit. Youll notice a exposed rectangular box now to the left of the steering column.
4. Just to be safe remove the negative battery terminal connection
5. Remove the 2 plugs to etacs.
6. Locate and isolate the larger plug. On that larger plug youll notice a light green wire in the corner. There are actualy 3 light green wires in the 2 plugs.
But the larger one on the corner is the one you want. You may have to cut back some electrical tape from that plug. I removed all of it(about 4 inches of it). (THIS IS confirmed for FIRST GEN, i think its the same for 2nd gen but verify).
7. isolate this light green wire and place your splice connection over the green wire. Then put your ground wire end(the one without the ring terminal) into the hole in the connector:Aka the untrimmed side. Use the pliers to punch the splice connecter down upon the 2 wires, snap the connector down. You now have a wire spliced into your light green wire.
8. directly above where the etacs connectors there is a bolt that holds one end of the etacs unit it. Use your 10 mm socket and extension and remove that bolt.
9. Put the bolt through your ring terminal, and reattach(this GROUNDS the alarm disable wire, and shuts off your alarm).
10. Replug in your etacs connectors.
11. Put the kick panel back on and the switch holders and reconnect your battery.
12. have a beer and ponder a 15 minute clean alarm disable
