Default 1st Gen auto tranny

Hey everyone. I've been a member for about 5 months now but I don't post very often. This is the first time I have really had a question that I couldn't find from searching. About 3 weeks ago my differential went and blew a hole in my transmission, requiring me to have the tranny replaced. I have a 1994 and they replaced the tranny with a 91-93. While they were at it I also had them install a transmission cooler to hopefully extend the life of this transmission. The guy told me that the transmission has ~50-60K miles on it, which in my opinion isn't too bad for a used tranny. My question is, are there any common problems with the 1st gen autos that I should worry about and also how common are blown differentials on the auto transmissions? I'm afraid to drive my car hard ever again now and I'm just wondering if it was just one of those 1 out of 1000 kinda things or are the differentials weak and driving hard will eventually blow them on any 3/S car. Thanks for any help.
