Sounds like you have the right tool to pressurize the cylinder to keep the valve from falling into the cylinder but you still need a tool to compess the spring so you carn remove the valve keepers/retainer/spring to replace the VSS.
BTW - The problem I had with a burned valve was that I did not replace the VSS soon enough. Good idea to replace VSS at the 120K or else risk damaging a valve like I did at 175K. #1 also seems prone to burning/damage. (Have found three other users with near identical damage to #1 exhaust valve.)
