Maybe. I've got a couple different sizes and types of springs (thanks to you Bob
) For instance, there's a stainless steel version of the stock spring. It's a little softer than the stockers. Depending on the spring pressure used, that could in theory affect how quickly the syncro ring grabs on the gear.
It's really fascinating how these little things work when you get right down to it.
The
really interesting thing I've found lately is that some newer transmissions use carbon/carbon friction rings
I've found some new information on Getrag's synchronizer implementation, and there is a remote possibility that we can use syncros with a newer design and maybe even the carbon versions. I even found out that a Getrag trans and syncros are used in one fairly high end racecar. Finding any really useful info is proving to be a pain though.
Don't get your hopes up yet, but I am trying very hard to find out more.
