Texas is a good place to be with these cars - and you're correct, there is a pretty nice following down there.
One thing off the top of my head to get as much information from the previous owner as possible. Ask for recent repairs, etc. One of the most important things you should find out is if the transfer case recall had been performed. As ABQTT said, check for leaks under the car since its been sitting for so long. If the recall hasnt been performed and the car has been leaking, you definitely want to check into getting it fixed before you purchase the car. If the owner has no idea, take the VIN number down to the local dealership and they'll run it through their computers for you.
If you're feeling extra careful, check the fluid levels. If the fluids are full and in good condition, that would be a sign that this guy takes good care of his car.
