Default Re: Make your own valve spring compressor for $15

40% improvement in speed:

1. Remove rocker arms, keepers, retainers (x4) (This goes very fast!)
2. Attach washers to valve stems (x4)
3. De-pressurize cylinder and push down valves (x4)
4. Remove valve springs (x4)
5. Pull up valves (x4) and pressurize
6. Remove washers (x4)
7. Remove VSS (x4)
8. Install VSS (x4)
9. Reinstall washers with strings attached (x4)
10. Depressurize and push down valves (x4)
11. Reinstall springs with string through spring (x4)
12. Pull valves up with strings (x4)
13. Pressurize
14 Remove washers (x4)
15. Reinstall retainers, keepers, rocker arms (x4)

Replacing VSS in groups of 4 saves ~half the time.

Two areas remaining for improvement:

1. Still looking for a more positive/refined way to remove the old VSS

2. Looking to lower the risk of losing a keeper - perhaps a powerful magnet on the tool that presses down on the valve retainer.

Time to do a search and find out if someone already has a patent on the tool I just invented.
