Exclamation How to to modify throttle cable for no cruise control (Dont buy another cable!)-Pics

Updated!- scroll to the bottom of this post for updated pictures of this mod performed on Race Me TT's car. I also made a small revision in step 7 as well.

For those that have removed their cruise control, and wanted to get rid of the military looking box thing, I found a way you can reuse your current throttle cable, keeping the plenum bracket. The end result will look something like this, you wont have to buy another cable from a non cruise control Galant/Diamante (can't remember which it is), that loops around the plenum (note there is currently no motor in my car). Since the factory throttle cable has a major curve in it, it should be fairly easy to get the proper position so the cable ends up where it should be.

Don't let the instructions discourage you, this is fairly simple to perform. However, as always, perform this at your own risk.

Instructions:
Step 1. Unbolt the 2 10mm bolts holding your throttle cable bracket to the plenum, and remove the cable from your throttle body.
Step 2. Remove the 10mm nuts holding the cruise control box (green military looking thing) from the car (I believe there are 4 of them). Remove any wiring harness plugs.
Step 3. Unbolt the 2 bolts holding the top half of the military box to the bottom half. Remove the cables. Toss the box in the trash, sell it on eBay, etc.
Step 4. Remove the 2 bolts holding the throttle cable to the firewall. Go inside the car, and remove the 2 bolts holding the accelerator pedal to the firewall. Using a set of pliers and screwdriver, remove the blue clip (edit- it has come to my attention that this clip may not be blue on some cars, it has also been reported as yellow)that secures the cable to the accelerator pedal, without breaking the clip. Put the gas pedal assembly , and the cable you just removed aside for now.
Step 5. Look at this cable that you removed in step 3, and you will see the blue clip that attached to the gas pedal assembly (not in this picture).
Using a razor blade, you need to make a precision cut, lengthwise, on the blue clip, to remove it from the cable assembly. DO NOT mess this up. Take your time, and make a clean cut. Once it's cut lengthwise, you may want to use a screwdriver to "open up" the cut a little bit so you can squeeze the cable through the cut. Once the clip is removed, put it aside and do not lose it.
Step 6. Take the throttle cable that originally went to the throttle body (this is the one you are now going to use), and loosen the outermost 12mm nut. Remove the nut from the cable. You will not be able to easily remove it from the end of the cable, however it must be done. Use a screwdriver to maneuver the end piece of the cable through the nut. Only remove the outermost nut, not both of them! Put the nut aside.
Step 7. Take the throttle cable you just removed the nut from (step 6), and push it through the hole from the engine compartment into the passenger compartment. Update! You may want to use a washer on each side of the firewall, so the nuts don't go through.Go inside the car, and now reinstall the nut onto the cable. Again, it will not go on easily but use a screwdriver and you wont have a problem. Tighten the nut a little bit so it doesn't get in your way. Now take the blue clip removed in step 5, and put it on the cable (a screwdriver may help a bit in this as well). If desired, use 1 drop of superglue on the clip where you originally made your precision cut (although I didn't use superglue at all). Let superglue dry, and snap the clip onto the accelerator pedal assembly. Reinstall accelerator pedal assembly back onto the firewall. edit #2- USE WASHERS! As noted above, washers may be recommended as the cable might get partially pushed/pulled through the firewall. I was experiencing some throttle sticking problems (throttle not completely closing 100% at idle- UNTIL I decided to install washers on the cable, on each side of the firewall. Old & unused headbolt washers are the perfect size. Once I installed the washers, there is absolutely no more issues of the throttle sticking & not completely closing.
Step 8. Install cable onto throttle body, and lightly install cable bracket 10mm bolts. Reposition cable to desired position & tightness, and tighten throttle cable bolts. Tighten nuts that are on both sides of the firewall, that hold your newly modified cable into place.

Done deal. Enjoy.
