Well to answer why the hell would the ECU work for a week or a month, or whatever. Us electronic engineers refer to this phenomena very often in our studies. Its known as PFM. All electronics is PFM.
The ECU is controlled by PFM unfortunately so you dont know when it will work or for how long with the honey comb removed.
