Hey everyone! Ok, so hopefully all of you are aware of the recall that was sent out regarding the transfer case on the 92-99 VR-4 and 92-96 R/T TT. I have decided to do some research on this issue, as the recall, to me, looks to be woefully inadequate. This is what I have found so far.

First. I called Diamler-Chrysler (mine being a Stealth) and found out that the unit they would replace the old TC with is a new design that is supposed to rectify the problems with the old one. However, as the bullitin says, they will only replace the unit on your car if the old one is damaged. I wasnt satisfied with that because of the potential safety hazzard that having the TC lock up on you presents. Sooooo.......

Second. I called the NHTSA about the recall. Since the recall, according to D-C was approved by them. I discovered that it is my RIGT to have the old unit replaced regardless of condition due to the safety risk. The gentleman there said I should call the dealer, and if they refused to replace the TC, I should contact the FTC and report the dealership.

Third. Ok, so I called the and asked them about it. Sure enough, the absolutely refused to do replace the TC without evidence that it is damaged. BTW, if you live in So Cal, NEVER go to Dodge World in Torrance for ANYTHING. They are HORRIBLE. Anyway, they told me that if I got authorization from D-C, then they would replace it regardless of condition. So......

Fourth. I called D-C again and mentioned that I had talked to the FTC and NHTSA and I got the same thing. They will only do the recall as specified on the notice. There is also no one there who could authorize such a thing, nor did they have the contact info of someone who could. Anyone see a pattern forming here???

OK, so here is the deal. I need everyone's help. We need to have all of the TCs replaced, regardless of condition due to the safety hazzard that the Fed is well aware of. Everyone please call D-C or Mitsu and discuss this with them. Also, everyone NEEDS to register a complaint against both companies with the FTC in order for the Federal Government to get more involved. DONT let Mitsu or D-C push us around!!!!! I dont want to hear about someone getting killed because their TC failed at high speed and they plowed into a school bus. Everyone please add your thoughts and comments. Good Luck......
